with God impossible is nothing

This past Sonday I committed to the 2010 Chicago Marathon which is 26.6 miles with my friend Andrea. Along with the Chicago Marathon, I committed to raising $1,310 for World Vision to fight poverty in Africa. Why did I do this? I did this because I know God is able. I know he is able to raise $1,300. I know he has given me legs and a working body. My belief in God's ability to accomplish GREAT things has wavered around at Illinois State University. This past weekend I went back to Chicago and visited Harvest Bible Chapel and Willow Creek. God has used two messages to rekindle my belief in Him.

Rick Mcdonald preached on Joshua 3-4 which is where God opens up the Jordan river for his people to cross. Bill Hybels preached on how God asks us to be faithful and along the way when we take steps of faith, he will MAKE a way.

Stats are enough for a warrant. Facts are true and therefore cannot be ignored.
Here are the facts:

- I am over weight. I weight at least 290 pounds. I exceed the weight limit on most personal scales.

- I have never been the most athletic person in a group.
- Luke 1:37 - With God nothing is impossible
- Genesis 21:2 - Sarah conceived and bore Abraham a son in his old age at the time of which God had spoken to him.
- Jesus was born through a virgin
- Jesus was crucified BUT was resurrected
- God departed the red sea
- God led the Israelites out of slavery
- Jesus turned water into wine
- Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead
- Jesus healed the lame
- Jesus walked on water
- Jesus gave Peter a great catch of fish

Today was fustrating. I was able to run 5 miles last month, but after a month of hiatus - 2 miles became a struggle. I ran 1.81 miles today and was not able to run the whole time. I felt like my lower body could not handle the weight from my upper body.

I was humbled and am reminded about the God I follow. With faithfulness and obedience He can help me to do the impossible - run 26.6 miles in the condition that I am in. Nothing is mine, everything belongs to Him, he will make that $1,300 happen.

I cannot imagine looking back at this post October 10, 2010. I need to record my journey and never forget what God has done with me or will do with me. I want to show my children and everyone around me - what God has done in my life.

"I will not leave you or forsake you. Be strong and courageous Only be strong and very courageous, being careful to do according to all the law that Moses my servant commanded you. Do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may have good success wherever you go. This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. " ~ Joshua 1
